5,0 van 5 sterren Great art, fun theme, quick to learn and play, fun if you don't mind attacking
I'm generally not a huge fan of attacky games where players are regularly targeting each other, but I know a lot of folks who really enjoy these types of games. If that's you, this would be a really fun one to try. I haven't played a lot of the Evolution series, but I really enjoy the mechanism of creating creatures with different attributes for attack, defense, or just general cool abilities. Here you're trying to get enough energy to transmute your creatures, and the first to do that 3 times wins.
As far as components, the quality is great. It's mostly cards, but they're great to handle with a nice finish. The art and theme are a bit wacky, but very colorful and fun - not what I would normally go for, but it really breathes life into the creatures. Mechanically, I like the way the game works. Each turn is fairly quick and simple and you're generally doing a few things to improve your creatures and progress towards winning. The game does a neat job of organically progressing to the end of a round once gems and cards run out, and the game usually ends within about 4-6 rounds, so it's a nice place and nice overall length. I also appreciate dune if the strategic timing elements and planning - you can set up cool combos with your creatures, react to what your opponents are doing, and just deciding what to do each round as your main actual and which creature to use is a neat decision with a few trade offs to consider.
There is some attacking here, so it kind of reminds me of Munchkin - race towards the goal and attack whoever's in the lead to slow them down. Although you can win without attacking - in my last game I never attacked and just used a lot of defense, but also barely eeked out the win because the other players started attacking each other at the end. If you like calculated strategy, this might not be a great fit, but if you enjoy attacking each other and a little chaos, this provides that within a really solid mechanical structure.
Overall, this is not really a game for me personally, but still one I can appreciate and would easily recommend for folks who enjoy this kind of game. There are certainly some tableau-building elements I enjoy and for a genre that's not really my preference, this does a solid job of delivering something I enjoyed.

5,0 van 5 sterren Excellent graphics!
I'm a complete novice to these type games, so I haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet. However, the game itself is fun to play when I can talk my teenagers into playing (which is rare!). The cards are very colorful and a bit quirky. The game play is pretty straightforward once you get through a few practice rounds just for learning purposes. Great length to the game as it isn't too long and isn't too short. The 30 minute claim is about right. The price is on par with games of this quality. I definitely recommend this to add to your board game collection!!

4*
Before you get distracted by things, the main thing to take away here is that this is primarily a card game. It's a card game with really big cards, and I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy that. The art on these cards is great, and having them bigger makes it that much easier to enjoy the artwork. They're not so big that shuffling becomes an issue though, which is also fortunate. I also appreciate the choice, because there's no reason that they had to be bigger. This game would have still worked just fine with poker-sized cards.
My kids liked the energy crystals. Having nice crystals like that was totally unnecessary (they easily could have just been cardboard chits), so it was a nice touch to make it more attractive in a family setting.
I was also really impressed with the player aids. These were some of the best player aids that I've seen provided in a game. Each player gets a double-sided card that explains each step of the game completely and succinctly, as well as a much larger, double-sided item (closer to the size of a standard piece of paper) that explains every trait and how it might interact with other traits. This means that you don't have to keep passing the rulebook around so that people can try to figure out their next move. Again, much appreciated.
In terms of gameplay, this played much faster than I had expected. It's possible because we're still novices at the game, but this might end up being more of a filler game than the center-piece game of a game night. The main confusing thing in playing the game that neither the rulebook nor the player aids properly communicated was that a "round" doesn't end after every player gets their turn, but ONLY after every creature is asleep. It mentions that it immediately ends after every creature is asleep, but it isn't clear that that's the only criteria to end the round. We eventually made the decision that that had to be what they meant since it would be rare for the energy sources to run out of energy otherwise.
At a high-level, you're just going back and forth deciding if you add another create to the board, if you add another trait to a creature, and then what action you take with one of your non-sleeping creatures. The game seemed pretty straightforward in terms of strategy until we realized that we could add traits to a creature that would allow it to wake back up a sleeping creature, thereby making the board a lot more contentious than previously expected.
The game includes a solo variant which I haven't tried yet. I may give it a shot someday, but I primarily wanted this to play with others.
I haven't played any of the other Evolution games, so I can't compare it to the others. What I can say is that it felt different enough in terms of gameplay decisions that it's a welcome addition to our family's collection.

5,0 van 5 sterren Survival of the fittest
This is a 1-4 player retail edition of a card game that first debuted on Kickstarter in 2023. There have been a few Evolution games previously published, but I am new to the series. To play this one, you place a number of basic creature cards in front of you, upgrade them, and hope to add enough energy tokens to three of them so that they "transmute." The challenge is in getting the energy you need while preventing your opponents from doing the same.
Using a hand of cards, you may evolve a base creature by adding traits to it - offensive ones, defensive ones, and ones that add other special abilities. This is a game where you will almost certainly attack your opponents, and be attacked as well. If that sort of gameplay is unappealing to you, you may want to skip this game. You may also lay down a new base creature on your turn (every card has a base creature on one side, and two upgrade traits on the other).
There are a limited number of "free" energy tokens on a card called the energy source that are available to anyone, and possibly some more that are only be available to creatures possessing certain traits. Once those are gone, you are going to need to use your attack traits to get more. But once you attack, your creature goes to sleep, and is (probably) inactive for the rest of the round.
The game is a lot of fun, and very easy to learn. The trick is knowing which traits to play, and how they interact with one another. After a few games, you'll pretty much have this down, but until then you'll be using your handy player reference card extensively. Like any game, it runs a bit slower until you know the rules. Once you do, it moves quite swiftly, and typically wraps up in about 30 minutes.
The game plays fine at two players but I think improves at three or four, when it has to be decided who you are going to attack, or need to defend against - there are just more variables to consider.
The art is fantastic, including the box insert. Component quality is also excellent. The cards are oversized, which really emphasizes the art. The energy crystals are very nice (and remind me a a blue version of the white honor tokens in Ascension).
I highly recommend this game, which kids can play as well (probably down to about 8 years... if you have a Pokemon player in your house, that person will definitely be good to go). Enjoy!

5,0 van 5 sterren Fun Gameplay! Easy to learn and teach to new players!!!
My son is really into fantasy games like this, so when I saw it, I thought this would be perfect for him, and I was right! He said it is really easy to learn the rules and really appreciates how easy it is to teach the rules to others (especially new players) yet says the game has the "just-right" amount of challenge for experienced players.
The cards themselves are beautifully and fantastically illustrated, really immersing you into the imaginary world you are about to explore! (I personally like all the vivid colors and artwork on the cards...Definitely a lot of thought and artistry went into this game and is definitely appreciated as it demonstrates all the love that went into creating the game!)
My son has played Evolution several times already, and says it continues to be engaging. To me, this makes it a great value, since they have played it more than they have played some of the other games we have here. He say it is the perfect game for hangouts because everyone who has played it here has liked it.
Based on our experience with this game, we definitely recommend Evolution series games, especially if you are into fantasy games!!!
